The transition to a sustainable and climate-neutral economy cannot succeed without society at its core

In my latest article in Green Business Greece , I explore why participatory processes are not simply a governance “tool,” but a fundamental pillar of a truly just transition.

Meaningful stakeholder engagement strengthens:
• social legitimacy
• transparency and trust
• long-term resilience of public policies
• inclusive and sustainable decision-making

A just transition requires more than environmental targets and investment frameworks. It requires dialogue, co-creation, and active citizen participation — especially for communities most affected by economic and climate transformation.

As sustainability challenges become increasingly complex, participatory governance is emerging as a strategic necessity rather than an optional practice.
