Switching to renewables is a key pillar of the energy transition, offering both challenges and opportunities to local communities. Through the #CoalRegionsWBUA exchange programme, coal regions from the Western Balkans and the EU start direct dialogues and learn from each other’s experiences how to accelerate their own clean energy transition. The exchange between Bitola, Novaci and Kičevo (North Macedonia) and the Western Macedonia region (Greece) took place in April–October 2022. 👉 Μέσω του προγράμματος ανταλλαγής #CoalRegionsWBUA, οι περιοχές άνθρακα από τα Δυτικά Βαλκάνια και την ΕΕ ξεκινούν άμεσους διαλόγους και μαθαίνουν η μία από τις εμπειρίες της άλλης πώς να επιταχύνουν τη δική τους μετάβαση σε καθαρή ενέργεια. The EU Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition’s fourth Annual Political Dialogue took place on 27–28 June 2023, in Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic). It was an occasion for stakeholders from all EU coal, peat, lignite and oil shale regions (“coal+ regions”) to gather, take stock of the progress achieved since the start of the Initiative in 2018, and discuss common challenges they faced, old and new, in that time's quickly-evolving energy landscape. The event gave voice to leading figures in the transition – those that were designing and implementing transition on the ground in coal+ regions, in EU capitals, and in Brussels. The programme included high-level, strategic discussions on what EU coal regions would be confronted with on their paths to climate neutrality, and how climate neutrality could be reached in a just and inclusive way. This video provides an overview of the results of the exchangeEU programme, the EU’s exchange programme for coal, lignite, peat, and oil shale (coal+) regions in transition. The programme is part of the Initiative for coal regions in transition, assisting coal+ regions in their transitions to a low-carbon economy and supporting them to deliver transition in a just and fair way. Αυτό το βίντεο παρέχει μια επισκόπηση των αποτελεσμάτων του προγράμματος ανταλλαγής της ΕΕ για περιοχές άνθρακα, λιγνίτη, τύρφης και πετρελαϊκού σχιστόλιθου (άνθρακας+) σε μεταβατική περίοδο. Το πρόγραμμα αποτελεί μέρος της Πρωτοβουλίας για τις περιφέρειες άνθρακα σε μεταβατικό στάδιο, βοηθώντας τις περιφέρειες άνθρακα+ στη μετάβασή τους σε μια οικονομία χαμηλών εκπομπών άνθρακα και υποστηρίζοντάς τις να πραγματοποιήσουν τη μετάβαση με δίκαιο και δίκαιο τρόπο.
